The Department of Antioquia is one of the 32 departments of Colombia, located in the central northwestern part of Colombia with a narrow section that borders the Caribbean Sea. Most of its territory is mountainous with some valleys, much of which is part of the Andes mountain range. The department covers an area of 63,612 km˛ (24,427 sq mi), and has a population of 6,6 million. Medellín is Antioquia's capital city, and the second largest city in the country. Other important towns are Santa Fe de Antioquia, the old capital located on the Cauca, and Puerto Berrío on the Magdalena.

Medellín officially the Municipio de Medellín (Spanish for Municipality of Medellín), is the second-largest city in Colombia. It is in the Aburrá Valley, one of the most northerly of the Andes in South America. To 2012, it has a population of 2.7 million. With its surrounding area, the metropolitan area of Medellín, composed by another nine cities, it is the second largest urban agglomeration in Colombia in terms of population and economy, with more than 3.5 million people.

Transport. Medellín has two transportation terminals, Terminal de Transporte Intermunicipal del Norte (North Transportation Terminal) and Terminal de Transporte Intermunicipal del Sur (South Transportation Terminal). The city's public transport system includes diesel buses, taxis, and an urban train referred as the Medellín Metro, the only metro system in Colombia.

 History of Wrestling in Antioquia

The wrestling in Antioquia began in the year1972, when Coldeportes took the initiative with wrestlers to participate in the National Games 1974. Fire Commander Hugo Zapata Upegui led the provisional committee of the ASOBOXLUCHA. At that time, the Boxers made a common association with wrestling.

The wrestler Ramiro Arias Figueroa brought experience from the Cauca Valley, where wrestling was operated for some time, with. The first lessons were held in a small room in the main fire station in Medellin on a 4x4 meters of cotton mat.
In 1974, the wrestlers moved into a gymnasium of the University of Antioquia.

In 1978, Juan Eduardo Villegas Rua, as Secretary-General of the Bylaws Committee was appointed. The first three clubs were founded. These were the Autonomous University, the University of Antioquia and the Club Liceo Thus, a separate provincial association was the LIGA DE LUCHA ANTIOQUENIA founded and officially recognized by Coldeportes. Now Antioquia have the majority of greco roman wrestlers in the Colombian national team.

Liga de Lucha
Antioquena

The Liga de Lucha Antioquena is, together with Valle de Cauca, the strongest Province in wrestling in Colombia. The best current wrestlers are Ivan Duque and Jarlis and Christian Mosquera, which always bring back medals from Pan American championships. Since 2005, the headquarters of the Federation is Medellin, and the President  is Seniora Fanny Margarita Echeverry, which also comes from Medellin.

At the national Games 2012 in Ocana, the wrestlers of Antioquia won seven Gold medals.

Greco: Juan Lopez 60Kg, Ivan Duque 66Kg, Christian Mosquera 84 Kg, Victor Asprilla 120 Kg.


The "Coliseo de combates Ivan de Bedout" The Sportcomplex of the Pan American Campionships 2013 - Cadet.        

In folowing towns are wrestling clubs in Antioquia: Itagui, Enbigado, La Seja, Necoli, Apartado, Chigorodo, Rio Negro, Savaneta und Turbo.

At the schools „Escuelas Populares“ are praticizing a lot of childern as well.
